Bulma had finished gathering together everything in her lab when she went to the kitchen to make dinner. When she opened the fridge, she found it empty. Yesterday she had wanted to go to the shops, but after her arguement with her parents she hadnt gone. But now, if she wanted to have something for Vegeta's dinner, she needed to go shopping.
She went upstairs and into her room and at that moment laid eyes on a photograph taken three months ago by her mother. In the photo, she was with Yamcha in the Capsule Corps garden.
Bulma grabbed it from the table and sat on the bed, looking it with tears in her eyes. Only two weeks had passed since they broke up and she still remembered their good times together. Now all the projects they'd discussed, all the future they'd planned together were broken into a thousand pieces forever. Bulma threw the photograph angrily against the wall of her room, breaking the glass. She had to forget him, Yamcha had never been for her, had never stayed only with her, always had at least one other girl. Bulma hoped for somebody who loved only her, somebody who stayed when she needed him. Now she had finished with Yamcha, perhaps she could find another man to replace him.
In those two weeks, she had considered another man. He had been rather thoughtful with her after her disagreement with Yamcha and this was something that she hadnt seen in him before. Also, he was handsome and although he wasnt too tall, he had a muscular and well proportioned body.
In the gravity chamber, Vegeta fought against his own limitations to be a Super Saiyajin like Kakarot and that young boy who came from the future to warn them about the Jinzouningen. The boy had been strange - in some way he had seemed familiar, as if he knew him or something.... He roared in frustration. Although he was using all his power, it wasnt enough to turn him into a Super Saiyan. At that moment, somebody knocked on the chamber door.
"Who is it?" he said angrily. "Didn't I make it clear that nobody is to disturb me while I train!"
"It's me.... Bulma. Can I come in?" she said weakly.
From inside, Vegeta heard her and decided to open the door.
"She seems depressed... What is wrong with her now?... Hang on! Since when am I taking care of this womans problems?" he thought as lowered the chambers gravity to one G.
"I have to go shopping. Can you come with me?"
"Why doesnt that Yamcha go with you? I have more important things than to do than go shopping!" he replied coldly, annoyed with the idea of having to leave his training.
Hearing his answer, she lowered her head. "Okay... I understand... Ill go alone," she replied, sobbing, before running out of the chamber. To be honest, she expected that kind of answer from Vegeta, but she couldnt believe he brought up Yamcha, since he knew perfectly well that her and Yamchas relationship had broken up two weeks ago.
"Damn!" Vegeta said to himself before he left the chamber after her. When he reached her, he called out. "Bulma..."
"WHAT?" she shouted without turning.
"What the hell have I done to you that made you act like this with me? Is so important that I go shopping with you?"
"Yamcha..."
"Yamcha? And what does he have to do with all this?"
"What does he have to do with it? You have to ask? Dont you remember that we quarrelled, baka?"
"Huh... I dont remember it...."
"Well, remember it for next time, it's over and.... and I dont want continue talking... about... this" She almost couldnt finish the sentence and, turning, she hugged him and began to cry.
Vegeta kept his arms out as if he didnt know what to do with them. Nothing like this had ever happened to him. Bulma had been crying a lot in these last two weeks, but he never could have imagined she would go and cry on his shoulder. "And what the hell am I supposed to do?" Vegeta asked himself looking at the woman. She solved his problem quickly. "Hug me hard...please..." she asked him, still crying.
Not really knowing why he is listening to a weak female who means nothing to him (or does she?), he took her in his arms, letting her cry freely into his shirt. A few minutes later, Bulma was no longer crying, but she still hugged him. "I'll never get back with that baka, I promised it... Thanks for.... for this. I need it really...I find myself so alone and thanks to you I feel all right again... ."
Vegetas stomach talked for him, making it obvious. "Er, yes, I..." he said, embarrassed. Meanwhile, Bulma was trying not to laugh, the first time she had laughed in two weeks "Well, now Im going shopping... I hope you can go two more hours without food..." said Bulma, separating herself from him with a smile on her face. As she was about to leave the Capsule Corp, Vegeta grabbed her around the waist.
"Vegeta, what...?" She couldnt finish the sentence, because when she looked down they were flying above the West Capital. Nobody had ever carried her like this. Now he was. He was showing her a new perspective on the city, one that she had only ever been able to see from a plane, and evidently she preferred the former. But why was he doing this? Where was he carrying her? Bulma looked at him with questioning eyes and he answered "Arent we going shopping?"
Bulma smiled at his answer. She could feel something different between them. She pointed to a big shopping center and they landed there, surprising the people around them. After two hours of walking up and down the shopping center and waiting in queues, they finally finished their shopping. When they left the center, they were buried in a pile of boxes and bags.
"How can you carry all this normally?" asked Vegeta, surprised at the large quantity of purchases. "I dont believe you can carry all of this yourself."
"Oh, youre right, to carry the shopping I need this," she said pointing to a big truck behind them. A moment later, five shopping centre employees had carried all the purchases into the truck. "Miss Bulma, where do we take this?"
"To my house, boys, thanks. Can we go?" she asked Vegeta.
"Okay." He picked her up by her waist again. Now was almost night and citys lights were on. Slowly, they began to fly over the asphalt and, when they were some metres over the ground, they began to move forward the air. Then they rose another few metres, so that the people were turned into little moving dots and the cars into fleeting flashes of light below them. When Bulma looked down, they had abandoned the city and were crossing a nearby valley. "Where are we going? We passed the city a while ago... "
Vegeta, instead of answering her question, increased the his speed, so that Bulma saw the trees below as if they were spots in the ground.
A few minutes later, he answered her pointing at some mountains in front of them. "There."
"What will be in those mountains?" Bulma asked herself in silence while she reassured herself. He really did have a stunning body, strong and muscular. His hair waved with the air, making him look really impressive. She felt the heat of his hand when she put hers on it. She looked at his face, wanting to know what he was plotting, carrying her to those mountains. She couldn't see any expression in his face, except for the small smile that he allowed her to see.
"We've arrived," he said landing at the top of the mountain. Behind it the ocean opened in all directions, covering the horizon and above it. The sun fell, mixing its golden colour with the silver colour of the water. The sky had a golden aura around the falling sun, making the spectacle really beautiful.
"..................." Bulma contemplated the spectacle open-mouthed, without words to describe the wonderful vision that she was seeing. She hugged him and without taking her eyes from the ocean, she whispered "Nobody has ever shown me anything so wonderful in my life... Thanks for showing it to me..."
Vegeta looked at her eyes and moved her soft and purple mane that fell from her forehead out of her face and kissed her.
He didnt have any reason, any logical explanation that he could find to explain his conduct. Maybe the only explanation was his wish to do it.
After some moments, he distanced himself a little from her, waiting to feel the weak hit that the woman would give him for his daring, but she did nothing apart from blush like a girl. Yamcha had never kissed her like this and although his kisses had always been sweet, they could do nothing against this kiss received from a man that she barely knew.
They watched each other for a few minutes, without anything to say until Bulma turned her eyes briefly to the sky and then commented "The sun has already set... We should go home...." Vegeta nodded and as he was about to grab her around the waist again, Bulma stopped him. "Can you carry me another way? I'd rather hold on to your neck...."
He nodded again and raised the hand at her waist until it reached her back, making her feel a shiver of pleasure. Holding around her back, on a slight impulse he lifted her and put his other hand under her legs.
She put her arms around his neck and rested her head on his chest, which was moving rhythmically with his breath. Slowly, they took off.
While they were flying, she touched his powerful muscles with the hand that she had slipped into his shirt and it felt as if his breathing accelerated as she caressed his back with her other hand.
"Please, can you slow down? I can see the stars from here."
He didnt answer but slowed down. She thanked his act with a new caress into his shirt. Under her hand, she felt his muscles tightening when she passed over them, as if it hurt him.
Bulma raised her eyes to his, querying. He only said "Training", but it was enough. He must have hurt himself the last time he trained. Really, she wasnt surprised by this seen the way he drove himself in the gravity chamber. She passed her hand over the muscle again, but this time with care. "Better, mmh?"
He closed his eyes and breathed deeply, leaving his body relax under her caress. Meanwhile, they continued flying slowly under the starry sky.
"Look at this star...its very beautiful..."
He opened his eyes and looked at the star she was pointing at. "Its Betelgeuse, in the constellation Orion."
"Really?" she asked. He nodded.
"Its really beautiful, ne?"
He nodded again and they went on discovering constellations until they reached the Capsule Corp. There, he started to descend until he felt the ground under his feet. Then he let go of Bulma slowly. "Thanks again for all this," she said to him, running her fingers along his face. "Now, Im going to make dinner, but then, when we've finished, you tell me if it hurts you anywhere else, and I'll see if I can make it better, mmmh?" she invited him winking an eye as she entered the house. Vegeta smiled to himself before he began to walk to the gravity chamber. Since Bulma took a long time to make dinner, he would continue his training.
Some time later, when Bulma had almost finished the dinner, somebody knocked the door. She wiped her hands with a cloth and went to the door. It was somebody familiar - Yamcha, who had come to talk with her. "Please Bulma, can we talk in the garden?"
Bulma, seeing the face of the man that had been her boyfriend for so long, thought that she couldnt tell him how she felt, but choosing valour she left the house behind her. They took a walk under the waxing moons light and sat on a bench in front of the pond.
"Bulma, I want you to get back with me. I promise you that I wont go with another girl, Ill swear it if you want, but please Bulma, dont say 'no' to me." Yamcha seemed really sad. His voice trembled and his hands shook nervously. Under the moonlight, Bulma saw how the tears rolled down the young mans face.
In the gravity chamber, Vegeta tried every way he could to complete an exercise that he couldnt finish. "Cht. Its impossible. Im not concentrated enough. What the hell am I thinking?" At that moment, his eyes saw two silhouettes in the garden that he could identify well thanks to his superior vision. "!!??" He gasped when he saw Bulma holding Yamchas hands.
"Please, Yamcha, dont cry..." she implored "I cant bear to see you to cry..."
"Does that mean that youll come back to me?" said Yamcha with a gleam of hope in his eyes.
Bulma let go of his hands and hugged him. "Oh, Yamcha, I...." she whispered in his ear.
Looking at this, Vegeta clenched his teeth. "That miserable bastard..." Enraged, he began to train harder, going to the limit of his resistance. "Very well, this is what happens when I trust in a human female..." he thought, furious, while he tried to hit his invisible enemy. In the middle of a difficult movement, a sudden strong pain in the right side of his abdomen broke his concentration. He fell on the floor, panting and with his teeth clenched "Damn it!" he said hitting the floor with his fist, with such strength that he broke some of the tiles.
Bulma separated herself from Yamcha. "Yamcha, I... There cant be... Im sorry, its too late... I loved you with all my soul but now...."
"But now?"
"Now, my love is for another man," she answered, looking at the gravity chamber.
"Him??"
Bulma nodded. "Yes, sorry, but Im in love with him."
"But Bulma, that miserable bastasrd doesnt deserve a woman like you. Im sure that you wont be happy with him. That man will never take care of you."
"You dont know him, Yamcha..."
"What do you mean I dont know him? I remind you that that damned bastard killed me, me and Tenshinhan, Chaoz and Piccolo. He came to destroy the Earth and he couldnt do it thanks to Gokuh!"
"Well, I remind you that the first time we met you tried to kill us too! Also, he is the man that I love and I wont permit that you go on insulting him!"
There was a tense silence between them that lasted for some time.
"Are you sure that you love him?"
Bulma nodded, with tears in her eyes. "Its hard for you, but for me too. Please Yamcha, understand it..."
"Okay, Bulma. Then I havent anything to do here," he said standing up. "But I swear to you that if he hits you, Ill find a way to kill him, I swear it by my warriors honour."
Bulma smiled weakly at him and stood up. They looked at each other for a few minutes and Bulma said "Im really sorry, Yamcha."
"If you change your mind, ring me, okay?" he said while rising into the air. Bulma nodded and Yamcha flew away.
She entered the house and rested her back against the closed door. That had been difficult to say to him... Maybe if he hadnt deceived her so many times this could have ended differently.
She shook her head to rid it of all of these thoughts and returned to the kitchen. When Yamcha had knocked on the door, the dinner was almost ready. Now it will take just a few minutes. When it was ready she left the house and walked to the gravity chamber. There, she noticed Vejiita was training without the special machine that increased gravity, because the doors light was green instead of red as it would be if the machine was on. "Dinner is ready," she said through the door.
A minute passed and since he didn't answer, she decided to open the door. It opened without effort and she saw him kicking the air. She gasped when saw how he was pressing his left hand against his right side. When he saw her, he immediately stopped his exercise.
"It still hurts you? Let me see it..." said Bulma
He gritted his teeth and turned away abruptly. He walked a few steps, grabbed his shirt off the floor and passed beside her without looking at her. He left the chamber and began to walk toward the Capsule Corp.
Bulma stood in the middle of the chamber. She didnt understand why he was acting like this with her, but she was going to find out. She left the chamber and went back into the house. There, she saw that had begun to eat without waiting for her, something that he didnt normally do. She sat at the table and began to eat, without taking her eyes off him. Five minutes later, Vegeta stood up and went to his room. Bulma could tell he was worried. He hadnt eaten much, and it was very strange that he stood up without having finished his dinner. What was wrong with him?
She finished her apple and went upstairs behind him, finding the door closed. She knocked softly. "Vegeta, can I come in?"
"No. Leave me alone." He answered angrily.
"Come on, whats wrong with you? Youre angry about something?" said Bulma opening the door and entering the room. He was sitting on the bed, wearing only his trousers. His shirt was badly draped on the bed, so that one sleeve grazed the floor.
She didnt get any answer for her questions, so she asked again. "Did I accidentally do something to annoy you? Maybe...?"
Without allowing her finish her sentence and roaring "Get out!", Vegeta launched a punch at the wall, burying his fist in the wall, two scarce centimetres from Bulmas face. In self-defense, Bulma caught the nearest object (a chair) and broke it across his ribs, leaving him almost without breath. He moaned in pain at Bulmas sudden attack and rested his knee on the floor, putting his hand where she had broken the chair. Bulma threw away the pieces of the chair and covered her mouth with her hands. She had never hit anybody like that. She had even broken the chair! Maybe she was some kind of brute, but she was scared and didnt know what she was doing.
After watching him for a minute she realised he was no position to do anything to her so she crouched down beside him. He had his eyes closed and was breathing fast.
"Im sorry...I..." she said softly, putting one hand on his back and the other on his shoulder. He shook his head.
"It was my fault... I deserve it for being stupid." He stood, then sat on the bed and she sat beside him.
"You'll tell me why you're angry?"
He breathed deeply and closed his eyes again. "Tonight...I saw it all..."
"All of what?"
"All that you two... Although you were far away I saw you perfectly."
At first, Bulma didnt know what he was talking about but after a minute she saw what it was. She rested her head on Vegetas shoulder and began to laugh loudly.
"Whats so damned funny?!" he said, opening his eyes, surprised by the womans reaction.
Bulma, instead of answering him, kept laughing. "For that youre angry?"
Seeing that he didnt answer, she continued more calmly. "Yamcha came to ask me for forgiveness and for me to get back with him, but I told him that I was in love with another man and since he was crying I hugged him, thats all."
"Thats all?"
"Come on, dont be silly! Why would I go back to him now that I... now that I have you? You werent jealous, ne?"
"Jealous, me? Come on, who do you think I am?" he asked her, crossing his arms. He gritted his teeth when he touched the bruise where she had hit him and immediately uncrossed them.
"Well, let me see what I have done to you..." she said touching him softly.
Vegeta put his right hand under her chin and pushed it up gently.
She looked at him, surprised, lifting an eyebrow. She felt how he was pulling her nearer to him and then she felt the second kiss he gave her that night.
